A monoprint, or “monotype print” is essentially a “one of a kind” print. Using a a metal plate that you apply a layer of glycerin and gum arabic to, you then allow it to dry and then use brushes, brayers and other mark making tools to apply waterbased paint onto the plate surface. The plate is placed onto the bed of an etching press and a sheet of dampened paper is placed over the plate. The plate is then moved through the press and the image is transferred from the plate onto the paper, resulting in your original monoprint.
